Barnet Judo Club Photographic Competition 2011 - RESULTS

Photographic Competition 2011 - Overall winnerDear all,

Firstly, thank you for participating in the above competition, which has now been judged. In short, eight people submitted a total of 39 photos across the four categories.

Before announcing the winners I would just like to mention a few things the judge, professional photographer Richard Goulding, had to say about the competition:

“It’s always very difficult to be a competitor in a photography competition, let alone a judge. I was really very impressed with all of the entries, and commiserations to those that did not win or were not placed, but as Judoka they will no doubt be able to 'fight' another day!

Firstly, I deleted the names of the photographers as sent to me with the photos, and re-named the images into categories.  Then I judged the photographs on the following criteria:

In every category the images were so close, it made my job of choosing a winner difficult.”

So without further ado, I move on to announce the winners:

Richard says of the winning/runner-up photographs:

I just love the overall winner, "Japanese Garden" by Chris Dixon, it has an appropriate oriental element, calmness and beautiful colour, plus the lens flair, which should normally be avoided, brings the image to life. Similarly with the runner up "Deer on Beach" also by Chris Dixon

Other mentions go to "Enhanced Bird in Tree" by Sam O'Brien, this is a great shot, but I felt it was not really a landscape but more nature, but I liked everything about it, so it gets a judge’s commendation.

Claire Tavernier's Judo shot was another image that I enjoyed.

I also could not fail to spot Dave Nicholls in Simon Mazzullo's two shots, I've been on the receiving end of his nage waza many times, and the grip fighting in "stalemate" is great.

Finally Richard concludes:

“Overall, great work, congratulations to the winners, and keep up the good work.  I would encourage you to publish and share these images on your club and Facebook sites, they are too good to hide away on your computer hard drives.”

Following up on Richard’s recommendation, I’ve now uploaded all 39 entries onto our APJC Facebook site, which can be viewed here:

So, congratulations to everyone who won or was placed.

Just left to say that we will be holding a 2012 photo comp; details to follow.
